Is Yoga For Seniors Just For Seniors?

1 Dec 2020

Yoga for Seniors is actually a very effective workout for older seniors. It has been shown to promote healthy lifestyles and help seniors maintain an overall good state of mind and physical well-being. In particular, yoga for seniors over 60 has numerous positive benefits for the body, mind and spirit. Yoga for senior citizens can relieve some common chronic health conditions, including arthritis, asthma, arthritis pain, and insomnia, as well as helping to improve flexibility, balance and coordination. And yoga may also be used to reduce the effects of arthritis on joints and muscle tissue by strengthening the connective tissues that hold bones in place. For seniors who want to increase their flexibility and range of motion, yoga is an ideal exercise for seniors.

Yoga can be used for all ages, although there are certain poses for seniors that are recommended for people who are close to retirement. Asana is an excellent and popular yoga for seniors pose. In Asana, or asanas, seniors are required to lie on their backs on a mat with the upper body in a horizontal position. The lower body is then brought up to the front. This pose can be done in different positions, including side to side, with one leg forward and the other forward, and in front and back. Asana also enables seniors to stretch their muscles without any pain or strain on their joints and tendons.

There are many poses for seniors that can be used for relaxation as well as strengthening, depending on the seniors’ physical condition and age. For example, there are poses that are suitable for pregnant seniors and those with injuries or back problems. These poses include downward facing dog, cat pose, wheel pose and foot and arm pose. Other poses include shoulder stand, monkey pose, and chair pose. Yoga instructors can assist seniors in practicing these poses and in selecting the most appropriate one for their needs.
